Holimoments

Freedom Pic

I think I’ve invented a new word…

Holimoments. As in holiday but much shorter and more intense.

It’s a word born of frustration, but hopefully with a happy future ahead of it.

The frustration arrived while I watched everyone else packing their suitcases at the beginning of July, when I realized that a full holiday was definitely, unquestionably, regrettably going to have to be written out of my schedule this year.

In hindsight I can see there’s a positive reason behind that – lots of exciting projects to work on and a wealth of lovely new people to meet. But at the time I felt decidedly cheated!

What, no time off? No lazy days in the sunshine, the only decision being which ice cream to have? What about all those novels stacked up by my bed, begging to be read?

After a full-on sulk it dawned on me that actually it didn’t have to be such a bleak prospect after all. And that’s when holimoments made an entrance.

First I asked myself a question that I often pose to my coaching clients:

Q: If you knew that you already had what you wanted, what would that be?

A: FREEDOM!

And I realized that, being self-employed, with a bit of re-jigging, I could make that happen almost daily. It’s probably the only real benefit of running your own business! I could create a little bit of freedom every day.

And then I got organized. I made a list of all the places my hubby and I could reasonably get to around where we live and work. I stacked the novels next to my desk with a comfy chair. And I started wearing brighter colors.

All summer, whenever there’s been a lull in the day, I’ve stepped away from my computer and done whatever took my fancy, whether I had 10 minutes or a whole afternoon.

And it’s made a huge difference to my mood. So far I’ve finished 3 novels, a chapter at a time, and am halfway through Caitlin Moran’sHow to Build a Girl‘ (snort-out-loud hilarious). Seth and I have spent an afternoon on Scotland’s magical Holy Isle, taken a meditative 2-hour trek deep into the New Forest, climbed to the top of Glastonbury Tor, sailed a friend’s yacht and reconnected with relatives we haven’t seen for years over a half-hour cuppa.

All memory-making holimoments, spread across a (slightly damp) summer. Our only rule? No digital devices. And because we’ve been completely focused on the moment – and each other – our experiences have been fathoms deeper and richer. Added bonus: no need for months of dieting for that elusive bikini body!

So now I’m thinking of running another Unhooked Retreat2 days of unhurried relaxation, immersed in the peace of nature, embracing mindfulness, effective healing techniques and large helpings of nutritious home-cooked food and restful sleep. Sound good? Martha thought so:

“Oh. My. God. Thank you sooo much, both of you. I’m a new woman! Who knew that 2 days could work such magic? I’m clearer than I’ve been for years. Those huge trees, the breathing, Seth’s infamous veggie curry, amazing.  Didn’t miss my phone once! When can I come back?”                                                                                                                  – Martha, Edinburgh

No phones, no distractions, just time to reconnect you with what’s really important. Your body – and your business – will thank you. We only work with 2 couples (or up to 4 singles prepared to share a twin room) at a time. To obtain additional information go to Unhooked Retreat.

Til the next holimoment, au revoir!

When did you last feel fully recharged?

phone-603048_1920

The only thing you really need to work on is your energy. I don’t just mean your physical energy levels which are affected by factors such as lifestyle and diet. What I’m talking about is your mental and spiritual energy.

What are the thoughts you’re holding about a certain situation? What story are you recounting in your head about yourself or another person? Holding onto negativity turns some of your thoughts into energy vampires. Of course, throughout the course of our lives we have all had experiences that were challenging and painful on a deep emotional level. These would be obvious sources of negative energy. And because your lazy brain is looking for shortcuts, it will bury them in your unconscious so you keep repeating the same old patterns day after day.

Your body, emotion, mind, energy and soul together form the whole person.  It is only by dealing with each part of the whole within the whole that we can have vital and energetic health.  Spirituality is the practice of love-based attitudes, practiced individually.  These attitudes can be shared with others but do not require organized grouping for their practice. Meditation, yoga and walking in natural surroundings are a few ways to get in touch with your spiritual side.

Mental energy starts with fueling our brains. The mind is one of the biggest contributors to energy levels. The benefits of having high levels of mental energy include happiness, confidence, focus, and increased willpower, motivation, and productivity. Motivate that lazy brain of yours! An example would be stimulating your mind with puzzles or mental challenges to avoid becoming bored and lethargic. Try something new like hypnotherapy if you feel stuck in a rut. Start being fully passionate about what you do with your life, whether you feel it right now or not. If you’re struggling to find your passion for what you do, get some coaching from me.

There are some things that can help both your mental and spiritual side at the same time. Remind yourself of the things you are grateful or thankful for in your life.  Surround yourself with AMAZING inspirational people. Take time each day to have fun; having fun stimulates your brain in a way that improves energy levels. Most importantly, be in the present moment, accept the situation you’re in and take the best action you can.

The end of the month is approaching very quickly, and it’s the last chance you’ll have to get in on the deal I’m offering on my coaching program.  It’s the perfect time for you to give yourself and your business the boost you’ve both been waiting for.

How Authentic Are Your Words?

Have you ever wondered what your words were really saying?  I know I’ve had my fair share of times when I’ve wondered how authentic I’m being.  Your words are power and they can change your world if you know how to connect with them. I learned how to surrender and the impossible suddenly became possible!  Ready to know what your words are saying?

It’s been a whirlwind of excitement around here!  I’m thrilled to share the video interview I did with Becky Walsh from Heal Your Life.  We talked about my video, ‘The Power of Words’ and how grace can be a part of our lives to bring things forward that we never thought possible; to open doors we thought were closed forever; and to embrace the best parts of human nature that we sometimes feel the need to hide.

We talked about recognizing the inner child within us all that carries around the burdens of society and the life events that hold us back and stop us from following our bliss.

In my book, Change Your Words, Change Your World, I’ll take you through how YOU can rewrite the path you’re on and change the script of your life.  There’s a power in your words that has yet to be tapped into and I can help you connect with the creative force of your words to evoke a rich, original and authentic life.

What does success mean to you?  What does a serene life mean to you?  Are you ready to Change Your Words to Change your World?

The moment I realized I was living by somebody else’s definition of success was such a huge eye opener.  I had what most consider a ‘successful career’ with all the bells and whistles yet I didn’t like who I was.  Thus begins the journey to discover my true, authentic self by following my heart, going within and listening to my own internal conversation; the words I had ignored or dismissed until then; the words I needed to hear.

After surrendering to grace and letting it carry me, change began to come forth through inspiration and goals that previously seemed out of reach were now reachable.  Taking the leap, surrendering to grace and embracing the raw power that fuels our words brings about the beautiful change in our worlds and lives.

What are your words saying?  Are your goals in reach?  Do you like who you are? Are you listening?  If you’ve answered ‘no’ to these questions, then it’s time for you to surrender!  Let me help you Change your Words so you can Change Your World!

All my Best!

Andrea

3 Realistic Steps to a Happy Ending

Some of the best stories are those that have never been told.

Example?

‘One day I’m going to…’ or ‘When I retire there’ll be enough time to…’

We all tell ourselves stories most of the time. They give us a handle on our world. One of my current favourites is: ‘When I’m fit enough I’ll be able to beat my husband at tennis.’ I’m recovering from an abdominal operation which makes walking to the end of the driveway a challenge. So even this sounds like an impossible dream right now. But it’s how I keep myself motivated to walk for 5 minutes extra every day.

And that’s a good thing while it remains an achievable goal which I’m gently committed to.

But what happens when the dream becomes pure fantasy and gets stored just out of reach on an inner shelf, alongside all the other dusty ‘if onlys’? It will soon start to take up valuable energy and taunt me into a vague sense of dissatisfaction.

The common thread that runs through these types of stories is the word ‘enough’. And it’s a word we tend to play fast and loose with. ‘When I get enough time, space, money, love, exercise…’ Whatever the commodity it feels like there’s not enough of it in the here and now.

And that’s sad. Because ‘enough’ is not a word that can ever be defined by a dictionary or even another person. It’s a quantity or quality that we need to determine ourselves.

Unless we change our relationship with the concept of enough we’ll keep pushing it out there ahead of us into never-never land.

So how do you rewrite the story you’re telling yourself and give it a happy ending?

I’ll be covering this topic in much more depth in a workshop I’ll be hosting at the Mind Body Spirit Festival in London’s Earl’s Court next Sunday, 25th May and I’d love to see you there. But if you can’t make it, here’s the summary:

1. Decide there is already enough of whatever it is you feel you’re lacking. You’re a child of the Universe! There will always be enough time, money, love and opportunity once you fully commit to something. But it will only ‘magically’ happen once you commit to it.

2. Take one step at a time. You’ve no doubt heard this before but breaking your happy ending into bite size chunks really helps avoid overwhelm. The steps can be as small as you like – remember you’re the storyteller.

When I was writing my first book, Change Your Words, Change Your World  I would imagine my first book signing in vivid detail. I’d tune into the excitement and energy around the event and picture queues of smiling people holding my book. Then I’d look backwards in time from that end point and ask my mind to describe all the necessary steps I’d taken to get there. Like finding an agent, a publisher, an editor. Writing a blurb. Creating an overall structure for the book and each chapter. And finally I would think about how many words I could realistically commit to writing every day. When you do this, start really small – even 100 words a day soon mounts up – because you can always scale up if you need to. The important thing is to make it easy on yourself.

3. Be your own best friend. Every time you hit a deadline/lifeline, throw a private party! Do a little victory dance in your living room. Give yourself a high five or a hug. Reward your genius with something that makes you happy. Appreciate and express thanks for all the ways in which you have – and are – enough. Within a very short time you’ll start to notice that the extra time, money, love and opportunities magically become available to you.

And that’s it. Three easy steps towards a happy ending. Thanks for staying with me and I hope it helps! As always I’d love to hear your stories…

How often do you use your intuition?

logo-FI-mint

I love my satnav. It’s not even a very fancy one and the navigator’s voice, if I’m honest, drives me up the wall (not literally). But whenever I need to take a trip, I depend entirely on Julia or Sean to get me there. If it broke, I’d be lost (literally this time).

This blind faith in technology has gotten me into hot water waaay too often. Once I ended up in a field full of sheep instead of the promised luxury hotel. The sheep were as surprised as I was. Another time it took me 2 hours to get off the M25 near London because the exit disappeared.

It occurred to me the other day that if my feminine intuition was a satellite navigation device, it would probably only be switched on half the time!

Are you the same?

Do you listen to that gentle inner voice and follow where it leads? Do you know instinctively what’s right for you and choose your own path even if it makes you unpopular? Or are you more likely to bend yourself out of shape just to do what’s expected?

If this sounds all too familiar and you’re ready for a change, you might like to join us. I’ve teamed up with the inimitable Bernie Petrie of Barefoot Ambition to deliver a series of Feminine Intuition workshops across the UK, starting close to home in North Berwick, Scotland.

It’ll be 24 hours of goddess-ness where we laugh and learn together and share our time-tested tips for tuning into your inner wisdom, detoxing your thoughts and loving the skin you’re in 🙂

Get in quick though. There are only 12 places because it’s a small venue and the tomtoms are already beating (groan)!

Blessings

Supercalafragalisticexpialadoshus

We’ve just been having a tea break in the office and talking about made-up words. It started when I told Andrea that elephants are called ‘slebies’ in my family because for some unknown reason, my two year old brother named them as such. 16 years down the line – nothing’s changed! While it might make us seem a bit mad, it’s a nice feeling to be part of a secret club, all bound together by a word that is totally unique to us.

It made me think – maybe he was on to something? Maybe my two year old brother was a branding genius? You see, by creating a community around your brand, with a strong sense of shared and unique identity, you are laying the foundations for a loyal following of brand ‘fans’. They identify with your values and feel like they are a special part of your ‘family’. Just think of Justin Bieber and his adoring Beliebers and you’ll see how powerful a dictionary and a touch of artistic licence can be!

So have a ponder. How can you use the power of words (but not as we know them) to make your brand an integral part of your audience’s identity?
