Get your Mind Working for You

mind-767591_1280

When it’s time to get up and get moving for the day, it’s not just your body that needs to wake up, but your mind too. The mind is a crucial part of who we are. It’s super-powerful and has unlimited potential. It’s your portal to the future and when it’s on your side you can create and do anything you desire, just by tapping into how it was designed to work.

By keeping your mind sharp and fresh it will improve your attitude.  Provide you the proper means of figuring out a tough situation more effectively and make wiser choices.  Even with the keenest of minds, you can’t remember everything, so don’t beat yourself up when you forget something.  It happens to us all at one time or another!

Your mind loves to solve problems so give it a positive problem to solve.  By asking it to seek out memories from your past where you felt really loved you will shift your filter from fear to love which has the added benefit of bringing the emotions back to life in your body.  Taking this first step will help you gain control of your mind so you can turn your life around.

Make the change today and start getting your mind working for you.  Bring those dreams you have to life, make them happen.  When you’re in control you have the power.  If you don’t control your mind, it will toddle off on its own path and as you know, nothing good can come from that.  As George Bernard Shaw says, “Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”

If you’ve lost a grasp on where you want your life or business to be heading, and you’re worried you’re falling deeper into the hole, don’t fret – I can help you refocus and get back some control. There’s no need to lose out on your dreams and the life you want to live.

This is the last month I’ll be offering you this deal on my One-on-One Coaching.  I will show you how to regain your confidence and live the life you were born to lead.  Places always fill up quickly so book now to save your spot!

With Love,

Andrea Sig

Unconscious Mind

You’ve probably heard of the analogy where your unconscious mind is compared to an iceberg, with 90% of it submerged under the surface. The unconscious mind records everything you’ve ever thought or felt. So if it’s filled with destructive thoughts and feelings, your life could be the Titanic, just waiting to be sunk.  In the age of the Titanic though there were no helicopters that could lift you out of the wreckage. Today there is.

The brain is very powerful – you’d be surprised by how much control it has over us. Anyone who has ever felt anxious or depressed can confirm this. Unconscious thoughts that we’re not even aware of play a big role in our daily lives, impacting the choices that we make. Yet your unconscious mind has some interesting traits and by getting it to work with you instead of against you, you will be able to achieve much more out of life.

The unconscious mind will keep you on the straight and narrow path as long as you give it the right directions. In one of my previous blogs we discussed how the unconscious mind can’t process negatives like “don’t” or “can’t”. Negative thoughts come straight from your conscious mind and since you created it, you are the only one that can change it, and we all have the power to do so.

The power of positive thinking! Once you recognize there is a negative thought coming your way, acknowledge it and stop it in its tracks before it can affect your mood. Then replace it with a positive thought. If you keep up with this one simple task soon it will become habitual, and your unconscious mind will be able to relax and reprogram. Imagine that helicopter being full of positive thoughts, poised to save you from the destructive feelings that have been trying to drag you under.

You can achieve your goals. You can live the life you want. You can get exactly what you want, and it can be done in a less stressful and much happier way when the unconscious mind is on your side rooting for you!

DON’T Read This if You Want to Change

Did you know that the unconscious mind doesn’t recognize the word ‘don’t’? Every time you use it, your mind will skip it and go straight to the rest of your sentence. So when you say to your kids ‘Don’t run, you’ll fall over’, you’re actually giving them a command to run and fall, which makes it much more likely to happen. It might be more constructive to say ‘Run on the grass’ or ‘Watch where you’re going when you run.’ Think of the UK’s Drink Drive campaign ‘Don’t Drink and Drive.’ Surely it would make more sense to say ‘Stay Sober, Arrive Safe’?

Since your unconscious mind doesn’t process a negative, it’s important to be clear with the words you use, whether speaking to yourself or someone else. Instead of telling yourself what not to do, focus more on what to do. Think of new ways to phrase things by removing the negatives. I can’t think how many times I’ve been nervous in the past and repeatedly said to myself ‘Don’t mess this up’ then watched, horrified, as I did exactly that! If I’d known what I know now and concentrated instead on what I did want to happen, the result is likely to have been very different.

Making the transition to positive language and rephrasing how you speak to yourself and others will not only help your unconscious mind, but also your conscious mind! You’ll start thinking – and acting – more effectively. Where the head goes, your body follows.

3 Realistic Steps to a Happy Ending

Some of the best stories are those that have never been told.

Example?

‘One day I’m going to…’ or ‘When I retire there’ll be enough time to…’

We all tell ourselves stories most of the time. They give us a handle on our world. One of my current favourites is: ‘When I’m fit enough I’ll be able to beat my husband at tennis.’ I’m recovering from an abdominal operation which makes walking to the end of the driveway a challenge. So even this sounds like an impossible dream right now. But it’s how I keep myself motivated to walk for 5 minutes extra every day.

And that’s a good thing while it remains an achievable goal which I’m gently committed to.

But what happens when the dream becomes pure fantasy and gets stored just out of reach on an inner shelf, alongside all the other dusty ‘if onlys’? It will soon start to take up valuable energy and taunt me into a vague sense of dissatisfaction.

The common thread that runs through these types of stories is the word ‘enough’. And it’s a word we tend to play fast and loose with. ‘When I get enough time, space, money, love, exercise…’ Whatever the commodity it feels like there’s not enough of it in the here and now.

And that’s sad. Because ‘enough’ is not a word that can ever be defined by a dictionary or even another person. It’s a quantity or quality that we need to determine ourselves.

Unless we change our relationship with the concept of enough we’ll keep pushing it out there ahead of us into never-never land.

So how do you rewrite the story you’re telling yourself and give it a happy ending?

I’ll be covering this topic in much more depth in a workshop I’ll be hosting at the Mind Body Spirit Festival in London’s Earl’s Court next Sunday, 25th May and I’d love to see you there. But if you can’t make it, here’s the summary:

1. Decide there is already enough of whatever it is you feel you’re lacking. You’re a child of the Universe! There will always be enough time, money, love and opportunity once you fully commit to something. But it will only ‘magically’ happen once you commit to it.

2. Take one step at a time. You’ve no doubt heard this before but breaking your happy ending into bite size chunks really helps avoid overwhelm. The steps can be as small as you like – remember you’re the storyteller.

When I was writing my first book, Change Your Words, Change Your World  I would imagine my first book signing in vivid detail. I’d tune into the excitement and energy around the event and picture queues of smiling people holding my book. Then I’d look backwards in time from that end point and ask my mind to describe all the necessary steps I’d taken to get there. Like finding an agent, a publisher, an editor. Writing a blurb. Creating an overall structure for the book and each chapter. And finally I would think about how many words I could realistically commit to writing every day. When you do this, start really small – even 100 words a day soon mounts up – because you can always scale up if you need to. The important thing is to make it easy on yourself.

3. Be your own best friend. Every time you hit a deadline/lifeline, throw a private party! Do a little victory dance in your living room. Give yourself a high five or a hug. Reward your genius with something that makes you happy. Appreciate and express thanks for all the ways in which you have – and are – enough. Within a very short time you’ll start to notice that the extra time, money, love and opportunities magically become available to you.

And that’s it. Three easy steps towards a happy ending. Thanks for staying with me and I hope it helps! As always I’d love to hear your stories…

Book Launched Today

As the CEO of Purplefeather, the past year has been a blast! We watched in awe as ‘The Power of Words’ video circled the globe with its message, inspiring millions of hearts to connect and recognise that we can make a difference.

Exactly one year ago, I came back from a short break in Germany to find that the video had climbed from a couple of hundred views on YouTube to over a million in just one weekend. And just to prove that it wasn’t a statistical error, there were 3,500 emails in my inbox on the Monday morning from people all over the world who wanted to congratulate and/or work with Purplefeather. Wonderful, surreal and terrifying all at the same time. Particularly as there were only two of us in the business at the time!

Since then we’ve received over 10,000 emails and the video has been seen by over 13.5 million people. We affectionately call it our 24-hour salesperson. It played a part in the Arab Spring and it was even picked up by Canadian politicians who were keen to align themselves with its message. One of my most treasured emails tells of the hope and inspiration it gave to soldiers in Libya.

The Power of Words won an award from the North Atlantic Film Council of America and was shortlisted for the inaugural Lovie Awards alongside contenders such as U2 and The Huffington Post. We were recently invited to apply for a Webby Award, and are still awaiting the results.

The video has been shown in schools, churches and training organisations around the world.  The CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi in Brussels featured it as one of his favourite ads in his book about advertising and a comic book was created about the video by prisoners in New York.

We have been asked to spearhead several campaigns – a world peace movement, international students’ rights campaign and Canadian cultural festival. We have been approached by businesses large and small, from a monumental aerospace company in Florida to a man making doormats from lobster trap rope. My favourite emails came from children who’d seen it at school, and people who’d been caused to think differently about the words they use.

Wow – we’re still trying to catch our breath!

But perhaps the most heart-warming consequence of the video’s success from my own perspective has been the commissioning of my book ‘Change Your Words, Change Your World’ by Hay House which was published in the UK today – a dream come true. You can get hold of your copy and read the full incredible story on Amazon.

Change Your Words, Change Your World book

Published by Hay House 2nd April 2012

I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who’s supported us with their encouraging messages, and would be honoured if you would share the book with your friends and write a review if you have time.

We really do have the power to change our world!
